Wild dogs specialise in hunting medium-sized antelope. Zebras are not easy prey. This is for various reasons. They can bite and trample predators during a defence. They can also deliver powerful kicks, which can seriously injure or kill a wild dog.

For the staff and tourists near the Crocodile Bridge entrance, this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, a rare intersection of wilderness and human space, where one of Africa’s most elegant predators offered a glimpse of its wild freedom right at the park’s edge.
