A wildebeest successfully evaded the onslaught of a lioness in an action-filled sighting captured by Danielle Sheedy at the Elephant Walk Retreat in Komatipoort.

The lioness was part of a pride consisting mostly of lionesses, which had set its sights on a herd of wildebeest grazing near a river.

Leopards are solitary and stealthy hunters. They rely more on patience and surprise than speed. They usually hunt at night or during the cooler hours of dawn and dusk, using their spotted coats to blend seamlessly into the surrounding vegetation.
